The Executive Secretary of the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha has reiterated the need to promote indigenous African languages.
He made the call in his Christmas message to Africans across the globe in Kigali on Monday. While wishing everyone a memorable Christmas celebration, the ACALAN Executive Secretary also emphasized on the importance of developing African indigenous languages.
According to him, ‘our language is our identity, it is what defines us and where we come from.’ Dr. Dampha further noted that without adequate promotion and development of African languages Africans cannot fully contribute to the knowledge gathering process and hence the development of the continent.
ACALAN, as an organ of the African Union have been at the fore front of promoting and developing African languages as an instrument for African integration and development.
