The African Academy of Languages (ACALAN), has established the Sango and IsiZulu language commissions. The two commissions were constituted at the just concluded operational and planning workshop recently ended in Kigali, Rwanda.
Aside the establishment of the language commissions, coordinators and secretary for the commissions were also appointed to coordinate the functioning of the commissions.
Speaking at the workshop, the Executive Secretary of ACALAN, Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha entrusted the newly constituted language commissions with the task of ensuring the development of their various languages at the grassroots.
“You are going to be responsible for developing your respective languages, our languages, at grass-root in your regions and in your various countries, and ACALAN will support your endeavours. We know that we can develop and promote our languages as a factor of African integration and development and we will continue on that track. There are challenges of course that we need to surmount.
You are going to be responsible for mobilising resources for the activities of your respective commissions, as well as plan, implement, monitor and evaluate our projects at grass-root, in collaboration with the ACALAN Secretariat and the other ACALAN organs. We congratulate you for being selected as part of the commissions and thank you very much for your availability in shouldering the African renaissance,” he stated.
